Meditation Classes Passionist Earth & Spirit Center

Meditation for Experienced Students

Meditation can be used to increase relaxation, relieve stress, reduce anxiety, and bolster self-esteem. But meditation is much more than that. It is a spiritual practice of transformation.

Instructions and guidance in meditation are found within all the major religious traditions. As a spiritual practice, it is described as a tool for purifying the mind of suffering, a means of seeing the truth more clearly, and a path to inner peace. The Experience Meditation courses explore the practice of meditation from various traditions and perspectives.

Experienced Meditation courses are for those who have a foundational knowledge and practice in meditation. It presumes an understanding of the basic theory and method of mindfulness meditation. A 10-week series of classes is offered every fall and winter/spring on Tuesdays.

FALL 2014 COURSE

Contemplation and the World - Embracing the Life We Are Given

What kind of universe do we live in? Our worldview has a profound impact on the way we understand our purpose and role as human beings. We are just waking up and beginning to consider what it means to be part of a universe that is alive and evolving. This course will use cutting-edge science to illuminate the spiritual path of meditation. It will examine the shift that is taking place in our understanding of the world, the opportunities it presents to the human community, and the implication it has for anyone on a spiritual journey. How do we develop a new intimacy with the world in which we live? Can we once again get caught up in the grandeur of our life and the mysterious Divine power from which all this has emerged?
