Orders for the Catholic or multi-denominational versions of Lent 4.5 can be placed any time of the year. Discounts are given on early orders. The easy-to-administer 7-week Lenten program provides your parish or congregation with a new approach to the traditional Lenten disciplines of prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
Each week of this program for Lent has a unique focus:
Christian Simplicity: The Next Step for Your ChurchIf your Church is presently using our Lent 4.5 handouts only, the next step is the discussion course book Christian Simplicity: A Gospel Value. It offers an in-depth follow-up for those who want to delve more deeply into the themes.
If you are just now finding our website, and thinking that you don’t want to wait until Lent 2014 to participate, you might want to consider ordering copies of the discussion course book. While the book covers the same seven themes as the Lenten program, it does not use the language of Lent, so it is usable any time of the year. Faith based, it includes articles with a religious, scientific, philosophical, economic, practical, or story slant, on such issues as Food, Water, Consumption, and Gratitude and Generosity.
Having small groups of committed or curious individuals participate in discussions now provides a church with a start-up group for fostering whole-church participation in Lent 4.5 for 2014 or later. Or for churches that do not necessarily observe Lent, groups as diverse as social justice committees, green teams, small Christian communities, Bible study groups, confirmation classes, and book clubs have found the book to be challenging and thought-provoking.

Through a measuring tool called Global Footprint, we are able to assess the impact of various lifestyles upon the Earth. It is a complex process, but a simple formula. At present, there are more than 6.5 billion people on the planet. If we were to divide the Earth equally among all of us, 4.5 acres would be available to each person. 4.5 acres is what we are each entitled to use. 4.5 acres is a fair share.
Lent 4.5 is a seven-week faith formation program which inspires and informs Christian communities on how to use the traditional Lenten disciplines of prayer, fasting and almsgiving to protect God’s creation, embrace Gospel justice and nurture spiritual fulfillment. It offers practical opportunities for people of faith to apply the values of Christian Simplicity to their everyday lives.
