Website

All of the content presented in the take-home materials plus extra resources are available online on this website for anyone who signs-up to be a member of the Lent 4.5 Community. Those who are interested in learning more will find the website has a wealth of information related to the weekly themes, additional educational materials, and links to instructive videos. It is designed to offer practical guidance on how to implement changes in daily life. For example, the focus for the first week of Lent is on food. Participants learn that it is more respectful of God’s creation to compost their food waste rather than tossing food scraps into plastic garbage bags that eventually end up in landfills. Anyone interested in pursuing this lifestyle change can click on the link and they will find a video that gives instructions on how to set up a simple home composting system.

Weekly Lenten Reflection

Members of participating churches can sign-up to receive the free weekly Lent Reflection by email. It offers inspiration, education and motivation to root our lives more deeply in the baptismal commitment to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. If our busy world, the Lent 4.5 Reflection provides an opportunity to prayerfully consider what Lent is asking of us – to act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly on this Earth with our God.

“And what does the Lord require of you but to act justly, love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” – Micah 6:8

Imagine if the Earth were divided equally among all of us. Each person would receive 4.5 acres. Now imagine that everything you need – food, energy, home, clothing, gadgets – must come from those 4.5 acres. But it takes 22.3 acres to maintain the average American lifestyle. There is a new way of observing Lent that helps us care for God’s creation by taking steps toward using only our fair share of its resources. Moving in the direction of 4.5 is essential for anyone walking in the footsteps of Jesus today.

Our Ministry

Lent 4.5 is a seven-week faith formation program which inspires and informs Christian communities on how to use the traditional Lenten disciplines of prayer, fasting and almsgiving to protect God’s creation, embrace Gospel justice and nurture spiritual fulfillment. It offers practical opportunities for people of faith to apply the values of Christian Simplicity to their everyday lives.
