Lent 4.5: Christian Simplicity  is a program of conversion which educates Christian communities on issues of sustainability and social justice from a faith perspective.  It strives to inspire and motivate individuals and religious organizations to take practical steps in caring for God’s creation by using only their fair share of the Earth’s resources. It offers a faith-based response to the injustice, inequity and devastation of creation caused by rampant consumerism.

Providing a Lent 4.5 online community is an important feature of the program. Its aim is to connect, support, and equip members in making personal changes as well as stimulating local change in their church or religious communities.

Strategies of the online community include:

• Information and Education — The website showcases the best faith-based information on sustainability and Gospel justice, providing clear, easy-to-use resources for living Christian Simplicity.

• Prayer Support — The Prayer Chapel provides community members with prayerful support for their needs. The Passionist monastic community in Louisville, Kentucky, will pray with us for these intentions daily.

• Stories and Inspiration — The Community Forum provides opportunities for participants to share articles, videos, blogs, and reports on how individuals and faith communities are changing consumption habits because they care about God’s creation, strive to embrace Gospel justice, and desire to nurture spiritual fulfillment.

• Support and Capacity Building —In the near future the Lent 4.5 online community will offer training opportunities, webinars, and technical support to churches and organizations to help make their facilities more sustainable.
