Nurturing Spirit, Society, & Soil

Learn. Serve. Transform.

We’re a nonprofit, interfaith spirituality center devoted to teaching contemplative practices like mindfulness, meditation, and deep connection to the natural world.  Through educational programs and hands-on engagement, we work for the flourishing of individuals, communities, and all of the creatures that form the sacred communion of the living Earth.

Statement from Board of Directors

Dear Earth & Spirit Center Community,
Racism and oppression have been a part of our country since the first Europeans arrived centuries ago.  The recent protests in Louisville and across the country in connection with the killing of Breonna Taylor here in Louisville, and George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery elsewhere, have revealed that our country still falls far short of its ideals of liberty and justice for all.  The board and staff of the Passionist Earth & Spirit Center stand with all who mourn and are enraged by these deaths and those of so many other innocent black lives.  We acknowledge the anger and frustration so many are expressing; the time to dismantle racism and end white privilege is long overdue.
We ask ourselves: how can the Earth & Spirit Center make a difference? How can the tools of mindfulness meditation and compassion drawn from the spiritual traditions of the world guide us in responding appropriately to systemic injustice and current racial tensions in constructive ways, so that the Earth and all beings may flourish?

Science has demonstrated that meditation helps build your resilience to stress and anxiety, as well as increasing your attention, emotional intelligence, working memory, decision-making ability, and compassion for others. If you are seeking greater well-being for yourself and those around you, here is a place to start.
In these highly polarized, highly charged times of racial tension and protest, are you looking for a way to engage but unsure how to go about it? Are you searching for deeper ways to understand racism, both in the current crisis and the role racism has played throughout our country’s history? Are you looking for support as you navigate the turbulent waters of this powerful historical moment? Please join us for a series of inclusive, safe-but-challenging conversations in which we can ask difficult questions about racism, racial equity, white privilege, and white fragility.
In the midst of a global pandemic, how are you engaging this moment in time? Are you feeling hopeless? Overwhelmed? Or are you letting go and stepping into something new? This four-week asynchronous online course offers a guided opportunity to engage collectively in The Great Turning of our society, from injustice and destruction to a culture that respects and sustains all life.
