Tony grew up in Detroit, lived in Cincinnati for a few years, and spent 30 years in Boston and Chicago before moving to Louisville in 2001. His wife, Kathy, is a recently retired psychiatric nurse practitioner and University of Louisville faculty member. She is now back to pursuing her music career. They have a daughter, Lucy, a vice president for a healthcare revenue cycle company who lives in Louisville and a daughter, Hannah, who was the Dean of Students at Bard College in New York. Tony lives a relatively quiet life as a consultant and trainer. He loves spending time reading, walking in the woods, and romping with his big rambunctious great Pyrenees, Ziggy. Tony is a lifelong learner and currently has very deep interests in positive psychology and resilience. There’s always something new to learn!
Tony earned a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy and government and a Master’s degree in planning and design from the University of Notre Dame. He earned a Certificate Of Advanced Graduate Studies in rehabilitation counseling from the University of Cincinnati as well as a Doctorate in rehabilitation counseling from Boston University. Tony’s MBA is from the University of New Hampshire. He is a Massachusetts licensed psychologist with multiple certifications in cognitive behavioral treatment, happiness studies, positive psychology, coaching, and positive neuroplasticity.
Tony is a psychologist and most of his professional activities have been centered in this area. He spent thirty years as a COO or CEO of large community behavioral health organizations in Boston, Chicago, and Louisville. Prior to that, Tony spent several years as a full-time professor and academic researcher at Boston University. He is currently consulting, coaching, and training in the area of positive psychology and resilience. Tony has clients across the United States as well as in Singapore, India, and Pakistan. He is also an executive in residence at the University of Louisville’s School of Public Health and Information Sciences and an Adjunct Professor in the psychology department at Eastern Kentucky University. He does work with the Rutgers University Mental Health Technology Transfer Center and will be teaching a class online at Rutgers this spring. Tony is the cochair of the Louisville Board of Health And Wellness.
