Class Description
What seeds do we plant as we begin the journey of meditation and mindfulness? And are we only planting seeds? How about enjoying the fruits of meditation?
As we begin this journey, there are many “seeds” we can plant. We will look at what meditation is and what it isn’t. Each class will involve teaching some basic principles of meditation and dedicating time to practice. Primarily in these four classes we will explore practices of stillness, stability, and focusing. We will begin to look at our reactivities and learn new strategies for not getting hooked. Even as we “plant these seeds,” we often do experience states of tranquility, openness, and greater compassion for ourselves and others.
While we will put more focus on sitting meditation, there will be attention devoted to various forms of walking meditation (or other forms of movement if needed), all in service of strengthening these capacities for our daily living.
Meditation and mindfulness are about “practicing the present moment” as an ever-present doorway toward greater freedom and love. In a container of safety and trust that together we can create, as best we are able, we will set an intention to deepen our friendship with ourselves, each other, and the wider world.
This space is also open to all “bodies.” Some of us are living with physical issues that perhaps feel inhibiting or make the issue of meditation seem impossible. Some might distrust meditation. There is no one right way to meditate and no “normal.” We are who we are and start there.
