Please join us online via Zoom for thoughtful conversations with dynamic figures who are actively promoting the flourishing of people and planet. Earth & Spirit Center’s Executive Director, Kyle Kramer, draws out our guests in conversation, and then we open the forum to questions and comments from everyone on the call.
Topic for May:
Tackling the Climate Change Crisis
Our guests are Carmel Bowman and Maggie Hettinger, two sisters who have decided to do something about climate change. Something real, something effective--which means something on a governmental level. They've teamed up with Citizens’ Climate Lobby, a grassroots organization whose plan was introduced to the US Congress as the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act. We'll talk about the basics of this plan, and how it works for all people, and businesses, and will get the US on target for net-zero emissions by 2050. We’ll have plenty of time for discussion and to learn how we all can make help work toward the goal of lowering carbon emissions.
About Our Guests:
Carmel Bowman describes herself as “just a mom.” She's played several other roles however as a Montessori teacher, a Girl Scout leader, a volunteer with Bernheim Forest and Kentucky Water Watch, a church and community musician—even a “hillbilly” for the Kentucky Flavor Traveling Roadshow. Her post-Covid plans are to focus on empowering herself and others to deal with climate change, and bridging differences through respectful and compassionate communication.
Maggie Hettinger is a semi-retired musician and teacher living just outside of Bernheim Forest. She is passionate about the climate, live music, wild edible foods and mushrooms. This grandmother has been known to lead joyful musical parades around the yard, not letting Covid get in the way of spending quality time with those grandbabies.
