How are you spending your extra day in 2020? The only requirements for this half-day retreat are curiosity and a desire to explore life with less reactivity and more creativity. Our lives are often demanding and full of struggle. The extra day in Leap Year is a perfect opportunity to find relief in the exploration of the power of gratitude, compassion and loving-kindness practices. We will deepen our self-compassion and extend it to others while maintaining a sense of good humor, focus, purpose and gratitude.
Because the idea of being in silence or practicing meditation for long periods (15-20 minutes) can be intimidating, this half-day format is a wonderful way to de-mystify “doing a retreat.” Silence is a tool we use to experiment with quieting the language center of our brain. Please anticipate silence as a pleasant experience as your brain’s language center relaxes. As the “talking” part of our mind quiets, we may notice that this allows the flow of thoughts to slow, allowing our observing mind greater clarity and experiencing more fully what it means to be in a state of mindfulness. Your instructors will verbally guide you through a variety of mindfulness and meditation practices that make the time move quickly. You will be able to ask questions in writing during the silent portion of the retreat. Emily will guide chair yoga practice; no special clothing or equipment are required and the poses are do-able for beginners and those with physical challenges.
