Class Description
Week 1: Introduction to the Desert Fathers and Mothers
Who are the Desert Fathers and Mothers? How are they relevant today? This session offers a historical and psychological framework with which to relate the wisdom of the Desert Fathers and Mothers to the wilderness of your own experience.
Week 2: The Wilderness and the Technological Society
Where are we at today? Why should we consider re-wilding our spiritual practices? This session explores Pope Francis's diagnosis of "the human roots of the ecological crisis" and calls attention to the importance of the wilderness for reframing humanity's relationship with the planet as a whole.
Week 3: Practices for Re-Wilding Spirituality
What does this look like in practice? This session is devoted to day-to-day and moment-to-moment practices that help cultivate authentic and transformative encounters with the wild in the natural world and in yourself.
This course will meet in the classroom in the barn, and all instruction will be available via a Zoom link provided to all registrants. In-person and Zoom participants may be invited to step outside for short moments of personal practice as participant ability and weather permits.
