Class Description
We know the benefits of mindfulness: less reactivity to stress, embodied steadiness and emotional balance, clear decision-making, compassionate action, and much more. But the reality is that it’s hard to develop and maintain a consistent practice solo; practicing with a group provides accountability and provides support when questions arise and your commitment wavers. Having access to a teacher helps you to let go of expectations you might have about linear progress and re-directs you to the heart of the matter: the purpose of meditation practice is to cultivate the capacity to live our lives with mindful awareness and intention.
Each session includes these 3 elements:
1) Foundational practice principles, instruction for expansive forms of mindfulness meditation, and guidance for experiencing the benefits of practice in everyday life using micro-practices.
2) Practice: settling-in, a guided meditation practice, and settling-out process.
3) Sharing questions, challenges, insights, and your reflections about practice. The forms of practice will go beyond sitting breath-focused meditation and vary each week. Forms of practice will include full awareness and sound meditation, Gatha/poetry for anchoring & focus, walking/mindful movement, deep listening, and lovingkindness/compassion practice. The goal is to provide connection with community and guidance for you to expand, deepen and stabilize your personal practice, knowing this practice radiates in all directions for good.
