Class Description
In his book Mindful Movements – Exercises for Wellbeing, the wise Thich Nhat Hanh says “Often it helps to meditate with other people. Sitting together, breathing together, we can feel very peaceful and happy. But sometimes we need to stop sitting in one place and start to move around!” Our Meditation in Motion class we will be taking Thich Nhat Hanh’s suggestion and we will “start to move around,” bringing our meditation practice from the chair to an embodied experience. As we move in a mindful and intentional manner, we can bring mind, body, and spirit into harmony.
Through mindful movement practices such as qigong, tai chi, and walking meditation, we will have the opportunity to experience movement that supports health and healing for the mind, body, and spirit. Meditative movement focuses on proper breathing techniques and slow, gentle rocking and stretching movements designed to improve our general health and wellbeing. It improves circulation, digestion, and balance, while easing stress and physical tension carried in the body. These practices will be easy to learn and do not put stress on the muscles or joints. It is our hope that mindful movement will be fun and will create a supportive community while improving health, peace of mind, and enjoyment.
