Sustainable art methods require consistent openness to learning, experimenting, and being in the present moment. The structure of our society has made it so easy to disassociate from each other and the natural world, as if we have the ability to exist separately. By becoming familiar with different uses for plants we are taught a valuable lesson. Whether it’s exploring the colors you can draw from them or the textures they create, they are a constant reminder of how sacred our world is. By appreciating what is near, we ground ourselves in the present. We are reminded that beauty and peace are at our feet, we just have to be open to accessing it through nature.
Through these workshops we will teach native plant identification and artistic uses. In doing so, we get a fuller understanding of the critical role they play in the ecosystem. Having a space where environmentalism and creativity coexist, we create a space for the human-earth relationship to be rediscovered and rekindled. Environmental education can be especially impactful through hands-on approaches such as foraging or hiking.
