Class Description
This six-week course that meets in the Barn will provide participants guidance in establishing a spiritual practice of journaling. Each class will incorporate brief moments of mindful silence, a presentation to enhance insight or technique, and opportunity to both journal and converse. Of course, one need never feel compelled to do or share what may be uncomfortable. Just as one’s journal can become an “Island of Peace,” so, too, may our experience together be. We will draw from Howard Thurman’s book, Meditations of the Heart, one that participants may find meaningful even beyond our class. Other materials will also be referenced and provided throughout the course.
Your facilitator is Denise Menard Davis. After having taught theology at Assumption High School for several years, she completed The Living School program offered through the Center for Action and Contemplation in 2014. In 2022, she completed a Master of Arts in Theopoetics & Writing at Earlham School of Religion. Throughout those years, she has taught in a variety of programs, including the adult education program at The Riverside Church in NYC, and Veritas here in Louisville. A life-long journal keeper, Denise brings knowledge acquired through her studies and experience.
